SMITHFIELD – Residents of the Thompson Farms community can now safely drink their tap water following the immediate lifting of a boil water advisory. The advisory, which had been in effect since Tuesday, June 4, 2024, was rescinded today, September 14, 2026, after water samples confirmed the water is safe for consumption.
The advisory was initially put in place due to a water main break that affected the Thompson Farms area. The Town of Clayton's Public Information Officer, Stacy Beard, confirmed that the lifting of the advisory is effective immediately.
The water main break on June 4, 2024, prompted the precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the public water supply. Following the break, the town implemented the boil water advisory, requiring residents to boil their water before use for drinking, cooking, and other domestic purposes.
The Town of Clayton has not provided further details on the repairs made to the water main. Residents with questions can contact Stacy Beard, Public Information Officer, at 919-553-5002.
