A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Geneva and Samson, effective immediately, with life-threatening winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes expected within the next 36 hours. Residents must shelter now.
GENEVA, AL – October 10, 2:07 AM EDT – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Geneva and Samson, effective immediately. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents are advised to shelter from life-threatening wind conditions immediately.
Peak winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are forecast, however, the NWS warns of potential for winds ranging from 74 to 110 mph, equivalent to a Category 1 or 2 hurricane. Last-minute efforts should focus solely on protecting life. The area is subject to considerable wind damage.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with a potential for major flooding rain. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action will likely result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter many structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous with numerous road closures expected.
The situation is favorable for several tornadoes. Stay in your shelter and remain informed. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter. Scattered tornadoes can hinder emergency plans, causing power loss, communication failures, and significant damage.
This Tropical Storm Warning expires October 10, 2026, at 10:15 AM UTC. For the latest local weather conditions and forecasts, visit the NWS Tallahassee at weather.gov/tallahassee or the Alabama Emergency Management Agency at ema.alabama.gov.
