Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Geneva, Samson; Prepare Now
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Geneva and Samson, urging residents to immediately prepare for dangerous winds, major flooding, and isolated tornadoes, according to the NWS Tallahassee FL.
Geneva and Samson residents must finalize preparations immediately as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT. This watch indicates the potential for dangerous winds, major flooding, and isolated tornadoes.
Forecasts predict peak winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the potential exists for stronger winds of 58 to 73 mph. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings. Large trees may snap or uproot, and roads could become impassable due to debris. Scattered power outages are also anticipated.
Extensive flooding is a major concern, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Major rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams could overflow their banks rapidly. Streets may become impassable, and many road closures are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. If your shelter is vulnerable, consider relocating now. The NWS advises completing all preparations before hazardous winds begin.
The Tropical Storm Watch is effective until October 8, 2026, at 7:00 AM UTC. For more information, visit the NWS Tallahassee website at https://www.weather.gov/tallahassee or the Alabama Emergency Management Agency at https://ema.alabama.gov.
