Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Southeast St. Tammany, Including Slidell

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Southeast St. Tammany Parish, including Slidell, as of 1:00 PM CDT today, October 7, by the National Weather Service New Orleans. Residents should prepare for hazardous wind and life-threatening storm surge.

Wind speeds are forecast between 20-30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before the wind becomes hazardous.

A life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible in surge-prone areas, with a window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Damage to buildings near Lake Pontchartrain and the Rigolets is anticipated. Assemble disaster supplies and know your evacuation route. Leave immediately if evacuation orders are issued for your area.

Localized flooding from 1-3 inches of rain is also possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings. The tornado threat is low, but gusty winds and showers may still occur. This watch is effective until 9:00 PM UTC tonight. For more information, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency.
