A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southeast St. Tammany, including Slidell, as of 4:03 AM CDT on October 8. The National Weather Service in New Orleans reports immediate action is required to prepare for hazardous wind and life-threatening storm surge.

Winds are forecast to reach 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, numerous broken tree limbs, and scattered power and communications outages. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

A life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations must be completed soon. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. This surge could cause inundation, damage to buildings near Lake Pontchartrain and the Rigolets, and weaken or wash out sections of near-shore escape routes.
