A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Southeast St. Tammany Parish, including Slidell, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA. Life-threatening storm surge of 3 to 5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Residents in surge-prone areas should immediately begin storm surge flooding preparations. Assemble disaster supplies and identify your evacuation route. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately; failure to do so could result in loss of life.
Winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are forecast, with a potential for winds up to 39-57 mph. Prepare for hazardous wind conditions. Efforts to protect property, such as securing loose outdoor objects, should be underway. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and mobile homes is possible, along with scattered power outages.
Rainfall of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, posing a limited threat of localized flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Tornadoes are not expected. This alert is effective until October 7, 2026, at 9:00 PM UTC.
