Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Plymouth, Sioux, IA; Union, SD Until 11:15 PM CDT
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for parts of Plymouth, Sioux (IA) and Union (SD) counties until 11:15 PM CDT, with ping pong ball size hail and damaging winds possible; residents should seek immediate shelter.
Residents in Northwestern Plymouth County and Southwestern Sioux County in Iowa, and Northern Union County in southeastern South Dakota, must seek shelter immediately. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls SD, effective until 11:15 PM CDT tonight, October 8.
As of 10:37 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles east of Union Grove State Park, or 12 miles southwest of Hawarden, moving east at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing ping pong ball size hail. Impacts include potential injuries to people and animals outdoors, and damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles.
The storm is expected to be near Union Grove State Park around 10:40 PM CDT and Akron around 10:55 PM CDT. Chatsworth is also in the impacted area.
Seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing large hail. Report severe weather to your nearest law enforcement agency or the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls SD.
