Sikeston City Council Approves Mowing Contracts
The Sikeston City Council approved mowing service contracts and recognized student artists at its March 2 meeting.
Mayor Greg Turnbow presented Anti-Littering Poster Contest awards. Livy-Gray Hammontree, a fifth grader at Sikeston Middle School, won first place and $100. Lucy Chapman, a second grader at Lee Hunter Elementary, took second place and $75. Lo Chapman, a fifth grader at Sikeston Middle School, placed third and received $50. Sheri Jackson's class at Southeast Elementary won the Best Class award and $100.
Honorable mention winners Kendall Oetting from St. Francis Xavier, Charlie Wicker from Southeast Elementary, and Lana Gaab from The Christian Academy each received a movie pass from Malco Theater and a large pizza from Pizza Inn.
Grow-N-Mow LLC won the contract for mowing city nuisance lots and LCRA lots at $3,500 monthly from April through October. The city will seek reimbursement from LCRA.
DLC&M secured contracts for Roberta Rowe Park ($675), R.S. Matthews Park ($475), and the City Cemetery ($490). River Bottom Ag will also maintain the City Cemetery. Hampton Lawn Care won bids for Armory Park and Column Park. Dewayne Taylor Mowing will maintain the Tanglewood Boulevard median.
The council approved re-platting lots at 100 Westgate for Hatchett Holdings, LLC, and vacating an alley within those lots. Tract 1, lot 3 on Washington Street will revert to city ownership and maintenance.
Dan Hinton joined the PAWS Advisory Board, replacing Blake Bain. Hinton's term expires in October 2026.
The council extended the city counselor contract for three years beginning May 1, 2026, with no material changes from the existing agreement.
