Sikeston City Council Lowers Contractor Insurance Requirements

Staff Writer
June 11, 2026

The Sikeston City Council voted Feb. 23 to reduce liability insurance minimums for contractor licenses from $1 million to $300,000, bringing requirements in line with surrounding communities and potentially attracting more contractors to the city.

Council members also approved a $23,410 contract with Turf Renovations for spring maintenance of baseball fields at the Sikeston Complex, including fields 1 and 3-9, plus Rotary and Danceler fields.

The council adopted revisions to city code on emergency vehicle lights and sirens to comply with recent state traffic law changes.

Council members gave first readings to two bills affecting property at 100 Westgate. The measures would re-plat lots 1-3, 15 and 16 of block 4 of Sunset Addition for Hatchett Holdings, LLC, and transfer Tract 1, lot 3 on Washington Street to city ownership and maintenance. A second bill would vacate the alley within those lots. Both require final approval at the March 2 meeting.

Video of the Feb. 23 meeting is available on YouTube.
