Sikeston Council Approves $84K in Building Repairs
The Sikeston City Council approved three building maintenance contracts totaling $84,000 at its April 6 meeting and addressed resident concerns about water quality testing.
The council authorized $44,848 to Tom's Tuckpointing for repairs and painting on the north and west walls of City Hall. Build on Bubble Tile & CTR received $21,000 to replace flooring in the entryway and bathrooms at the Clinton Building. Marty Presley Heating & Cooling won an $18,698 contract to install an air conditioning rooftop unit at the Department of Public Safety headquarters, which includes a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities General Manager Rick Landers clarified that PCE levels recorded in 2009 were raw, untreated water readings taken before the city's treatment process. The city has met all state and federal safety standards, with PCE levels below regulatory limits, Landers said. He also confirmed that Vestis is covering the cost of relocating Well #3 and that water rates were not increased to pay for the relocation.
The council also adopted a Fair Housing Policy required to maintain compliance with state Community Development Block Grant funding. The Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will serve as the Fair Housing Committee, which will hear municipal complaints and resolve alleged violations through conference and conciliation.
A recording of the April 6 meeting is available on the city's YouTube channel.
