Olmsted County Discovers $1.5 Million Error in 2026 Property Tax Levy

Olmsted County staff discovered a data entry error that resulted in an additional $1.5 million assessed on the 2026 property tax levy, about 1% of the overall county levy.

County Administrator Travis Gransee said staff will recommend sequestering the $1.5 million in collected funds and allocating it to the 2027 budget. The county notified the Minnesota Department of Revenue and the public after identifying and verifying the error through internal processes.

County Board Chair David Senjem said the county is working with the county auditor and following state guidance to handle the matter transparently. The county has implemented internal controls to prevent similar errors.
