Residents in Caddo and Bossier Parishes should prepare for a strong thunderstorm impacting the area. The National Weather Service in Shreveport, LA, issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 1, 2026, at 6:02 PM CDT, effective until 6:45 PM CDT.

Doppler radar indicates a strong thunderstorm near Belcher, approximately 19 miles north of Shreveport, moving north at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects.

Areas expected to be impacted include Vivian, Plain Dealing, Oil City, Mooringsport, Hosston, Rodessa, Belcher, Ida, Gilliam, Cavett, Dixie, Caddo Lake, and Bolinger.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Residents are advised to seek safe shelter inside a sturdy building or vehicle immediately.
