Cuyahoga County and its community partners are working to strengthen a network of services designed to help individuals impacted by the justice system successfully reintegrate into the community.
The Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry coordinates innovative programs and services, partnering with numerous organizations to assist individuals with critical needs such as housing, employment, workforce development training, benefit assistance, and navigating legal challenges.
A key resource is the North Star Neighborhood Reentry Resource Center, described as a one-stop shop for reentry services. It aids individuals with criminal justice involvement and their families in overcoming barriers.
Educational opportunities are available through Aspire Greater Cleveland, which offers free comprehensive education and life skills services to adult learners. For immediate employment needs, the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides paid work, skills training, and career support to reduce recidivism and increase job placement.
Legal assistance is accessible through several avenues. The Cuyahoga County Office of Public Defender offers legal representation for adults and juveniles facing criminal charges. Case Western Reserve University's Second Chance Reentry Law Clinic and Cleveland State University's Pardon, Clemency and Reentry Clinic assist individuals with barriers stemming from criminal records and convictions, respectively. The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland provides civil legal help for low-income individuals across several counties, covering areas like benefits, employment, and housing.
Additional support services include the Bridge Beyond Benefits program, which helps individuals who experience a significant decrease in public assistance as their earnings increase. Specialized courts, such as the Cuyahoga County Re-Entry Court and the Veteran's Treatment Court, offer intensive programming and supervision tailored to specific needs.
For general information and referrals, residents can contact United Way 211, which provides free and confidential services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry can be reached via email at [email protected] or by phone at (216) 698-3437.
