Chelsea Electricity Choice Announces New Pricing for June 2026

In June 2026, Chelsea Electricity Choice will transition to new 30-month prices. The change will occur as the current electricity supply contract ends and a new contract with First Point Power takes effect. While there has been a general increase in electricity costs since the program’s 2024 launch, the new prices remain lower than Eversource’s current electricity supply prices for most participants. This new contract continues the program’s track record of saving Chelsea residents and business owners more than $2.7 million compared with Eversource since 2024. New program prices: Fixed and stable from June 2026 – December 2028 Chelsea Basic: This is the program’s lowest-priced option, and the option in which most participants are currently enrolled. The price for Chelsea Basic will increase from 12.42 ¢/kWh to 14.860 ¢/kWh. Chelsea Standard: The price for the Chelsea Standard option will increase from 12.86 ¢/kWh to 15.233 ¢/kWh. In addition to the price change, the amount of electricity sourced from renewable energy for Chelsea Standard participants will increase from 75% to 85%. Chelsea 100% Green: The price for the Chelsea 100% Green option will increase from 13.86 ¢/kWh to 15.853 ¢/kWh. Participants in Chelsea 100% Green will continue to receive 100% of their electricity from renewable sources. An average resident using 507 kWh/month and enrolled in Chelsea Basic will see an increase of approximately $12 per month. How these prices compare Chelsea Electricity Choice continues to provide prices that are competitive with Eversource: Residential savings: The new prices for both Chelsea Basic and Chelsea Standard remain lower than Eversource’s current residential electricity supply price of 15.629 ¢/kWh. Small business savings: The new price for Chelsea Basic is also lower than Eversource’s current small business price of 15.030 ¢/kWh. Please note: Eversource’s current prices are fixed through July 31, 2026. Because their future prices are unknown, future savings cannot be guaranteed. Additional details for participants No action is required for current Chelsea Electricity Choice participants. Active participants will be automatically enrolled in the new price for their program option in June and will see the new price on their July Eversource bills. The City will mail a notice regarding the new prices to participants in May. Participants may opt out at any time with no fee or penalty. About Chelsea Electricity Choice Chelsea Electricity Choice is our city’s group electricity buying program. Under state law, most electricity customers in Chelsea are enrolled, though participation is never required. The program provides a Chelsea Electricity Choice price for the supply portion of participants’ Eversource electric bills, while Eversource continues to deliver electricity and send bills. More than 200 other Massachusetts communities have similar programs. Hillside Avenue Traffic Change Effective May 14: Chelsea Approves One-Way Street for Veterans Home Project

The City of Chelsea has announced Hillside Avenue will become a one-way street from Crest Avenue to Eleanor Street, effective May 14, 2026. The change follows a 2024 decision by the Chelsea Traffic & Parking Commission to approve the new roadway direction. Chelsea’s Traffic & Parking Commission approved this new roadway direction, requested by developer Pennrose, to create enough space to install a sidewalk—improving walkability near the future Chelsea Veterans Home project. Additionally, in affiliation with MBTA's Bus Network Redesign initiative, the new roadway change will better support the travel of the MBTA Route 112 through Hillside Avenue, as the MBTA also seeks to make adjustments to bus stop locations and routing throughout the neighborhood in conjunction with the Veterans Home project. The Department of Public Works has notified residents of Hillside Avenue and neighboring streets, and is currently preparing for the change by flipping all traffic and parking signage along Hillside Avenue to make the roadway direction change as apparent as possible. Chelsea City Council Forms Charter Review Committee

"City Council President Roberto Jimenez-Rivera has announced he will be forming a Charter Review Committee to conduct a comprehensive review of the Chelsea City Charter. The Committee will review the charter to ensure that the City's system of government adequately addresses and balances issues such as civic engagement, community input, and subject matter expertise. The Committee will evaluate each section of the charter and consider whether updates or reforms are necessary to strengthen transparency, accountability, responsiveness, and effective municipal governance for the future of Chelsea. "Since I joined the City Council, multiple councilors – including myself – have raised concerns that portions of the charter no longer reflect the realities and needs of modern municipal governance," said Council President Jimenez-Rivera. "Community members have also raised concerns regarding the strength of community engagement during the 2020 Charter Review Process, which was severely disrupted due to the COVID pandemic. Although charter reviews are required to happen every 10 years in calendar years ending with zero, I believe there is consensus among the City Council that convening a charter review process at this time is a necessary step." The Charter Review Committee members will represent a broad range of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. The committee will consist of the following members: Three City Councilors; One School Committee member; Five Chelsea residents, to be selected from the pool of interested applicants. Meetings of the Committee are anticipated to begin in July 2026, with the goal of completing its work by the end of the calendar year. Any proposed changes would then be submitted to the City Council for final approval before submission to the Massachusetts General Court in advance of their 2027 filing deadline.How to Apply Members of the Chelsea community interested in serving on the committee are encouraged to submit a resume and short letter expressing their interest, background, and reasons for seeking appointment, no later than noon on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Local Army Veteran Ron Robinson & City Invite Artists to Submit Work for Memorial Day Exhibition

"Chelsea United States Army Veteran Ron Robinson and the City of Chelsea invite artists to submit work for a group art exhibition in recognition of Memorial Day. The exhibit, which will be on view in Chelsea City Hall’s East Wing Gallery May 18 through June 19, 2026, will honor fallen veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. The exhibition will reflect on themes of service, sacrifice, and collective remembrance, with a special emphasis on local veterans. Learn more at www.chelseama.gov/callforartists The exhibition was initiated by Robinson, who served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and is supported by the City Manager’s Office and Veteran Services Department, a division under Health & Human Services (HHS). Robinson is a social worker, community activist, and co-founder of the Lewis H. Latimer Society & Museum. Artists are strongly encouraged to incorporate materials from the local archive at the Chelsea Public Library into their work. They are also encouraged to engage with the living history embodied in the memories of veterans who bear witness to their fallen comrades.Work should be wall-displayable and in any medium, including painting, photography, textiles, collage, and mixed media. No formal artistic training is required, and emerging artists, including complete beginners, and veterans and their loved ones, are strongly encouraged to submit. The exhibition is open to Massachusetts artists of any age, with priority given to those based in or connected to Chelsea and the Greater Boston area as well as those with a personal connection to Memorial Day and its themes, such as veterans and gold star families. The submission deadline is Friday, April 24, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
