A Red Flag Warning is in effect for parts of Shasta, Tehama, and Glenn Counties from Sunday at 7 AM PDT to Monday at 5 AM PDT due to strong winds and low humidity, increasing fire danger.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for south-central Shasta County, including the Redding Metro area, the Northern Sacramento Valley in Tehama County, and Central Glenn County, including Interstate 5. The warning is in effect from Sunday, October 11, at 7:00 AM PDT until Monday, October 12, at 5:00 AM PDT.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued this warning due to critical fire weather conditions expected to develop. These conditions include north to northeast winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 30-40 mph. The strongest winds are anticipated on Sunday morning. Relative humidity levels are forecast to be between 15 to 25 percent.

These conditions mean that any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended during this period. Residents should be prepared for extreme fire behavior. It is crucial to have multiple ways to receive information from authorities, such as emergency alerts on your phone, NOAA Weather Radio, or local news.

A Red Flag Warning signifies that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or are imminent. The combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures significantly increases the risk of fire and rapid fire spread.
