Heat Advisory Issued for Sacramento Valley, Foothills Through Friday

A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin Valleys and foothills from today until Friday at 10 PM PDT, with temperatures up to 102 degrees expected. Take precautions against heat-related illness.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin Valleys, Delta, Carquinez Strait, and surrounding foothills. The National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento CA issued the advisory today, October 6, at 11:32 AM PDT, effective until 10:00 PM PDT on Friday, October 9.

High temperatures are expected to reach 94 to 102 degrees, with overnight lows remaining in the mid-60s to low-70s. This will result in widespread Moderate HeatRisk and localized areas of Major HeatRisk. The hottest days are anticipated from Tuesday through Thursday.

Affected areas include Western Shasta County Foothills, Redding Metro, Eastern Shasta County Foothills, Sierra Nevada of Tehama-Butte-Plumas Counties (1000-3000 ft), Northern, Central, and Southern Motherlode (1000-3000 ft), Western Tehama County Foothills, Northern Sacramento Valley in Tehama County, Glenn County, Butte County (below 1000 ft), Western Glenn and Colusa County Foothills, Colusa County, Sutter and Yuba Counties (below 1000 ft), Capay Hills of Yolo County, Vaca Hills of Solano County, Western Yolo County, Central Yolo and Northeast Solano Counties, Sacramento Metro, Western El Dorado and Amador Counties, Central and Southwestern Solano County, Sacramento County Delta, San Joaquin County Delta, Central San Joaquin County, Tracy Triangle, Northeastern San Joaquin Valley, Eastern Diablo Range, and Western and Central Stanislaus County.

Residents are urged to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. When outdoors, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take immediate action if you observe symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
