U.S. Sanctions Over 50 Individuals, Entities Tied to Mexican Drug Cartel

WASHINGTON – The United States on July 23, 2026, imposed sanctions on over 50 Mexican individuals and entities linked to the Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). This action targets what U.S. officials describe as leadership and operational elements of the organization.

The sanctions aim to disrupt the CJNG's activities across various Mexican states. Juan Carlos González, identified by the alias “Pelón,” a dual U.S.-Mexican national, was named as the new leader of the CJNG. The Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) offers a reward of up to $5 million for information resulting in his arrest or conviction.

Today's measures were enacted under Executive Order (E.O.) 14059, which addresses the proliferation of illicit drugs, and E.O. 13224, as amended, which targets terrorists and their supporters. Last year, the Trump Administration designated the CJNG as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
