Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Sevier County Until 8:45 PM EDT

Sevier County is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:45 PM EDT tonight, with residents urged to seek immediate shelter from 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail.

Sevier County residents are advised to seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued until 8:45 PM EDT tonight, September 18.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Morristown TN reported at 8:23 PM EDT that a severe thunderstorm was located near Smoky Mountains-Newfound Gap, approximately 8 miles southeast of Gatlinburg. The storm is moving south at 10 mph.

Hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Impacts are expected to include hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. The NWS indicates this information is radar-indicated.

Affected locations include Smoky Mountains-Newfound Gap, Smoky Mountains-Balsam Mountain, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. The warning is effective immediately and expires at 8:45 PM EDT.
