Wholesale Prices Cool in October Amid Lower Gas, Food Costs
Wholesale prices decreased in October, driven by lower costs for gasoline and certain food items. This marks the largest monthly decline since April 2020.
The Producer Price Index, which tracks wholesale prices, declined by 0.5% in October. This marked the largest monthly decrease since April 2020. The annual rate of wholesale inflation also saw a reduction, dropping to 1.3% from 2.2% in September.
Driving the overall decline were significant drops in energy and food prices. Energy costs fell by 4.7% in October, while food prices decreased by 0.7%.
