Columbus Day Holiday Will Not Impact Waste Collection in Unincorporated Palm Beach County

Garbage, recyclables, yard waste and bulk waste collection will not be impacted for residents and businesses in unincorporated Palm Beach County on Monday, Oct. 12, in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA) disposal facilities will be open and haulers in unincorporated Palm Beach County will run their regular routes. Residents should place all garbage, recyclables and yard waste curbside by 6 a.m.

Garbage, recyclables, yard waste and bulk waste collection will not be impacted for residents and businesses in unincorporated Palm Beach County on Monday, Oct. 12, in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA) disposal facilities will be open and haulers in unincorporated Palm Beach County will run their regular routes. Residents should place all garbage, recyclables and yard waste curbside by 6 a.m. Solid Waste Authority administrative offices will also be open for normal business, and customer service team members will be available to assist residents with any garbage or recycling collection questions or concerns. Residents in unincorporated Palm Beach County can always see their collection schedule, set reminders, and sign up for collection information by visiting the “Pickup Schedule” page on the SWA’s website. Residents living in one of Palm Beach County’s 39 municipalities should contact their village, town or city directly for holiday collection information. A courtesy list of municipal contacts can be found online. There are only two observed holidays during which residents in unincorporated Palm Beach County will not receive waste collection service: Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026 Christmas Day: Friday, Dec. 25, 2026 There will be normal scheduled collection service for unincorporated residents on the following holidays: Columbus Day: Monday, Oct. 12, 2026 Veteran’s Day: Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026 Christmas Eve: Thursday, Dec. 24, 2026 New Year's Eve: Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026 New Year’s Day: Friday, Jan. 1, 2027 More information on holiday collection can be found online, as can additional information about SWA facilities and hours. ### About the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA) is a local governmental agency that manages the municipal solid waste generated in Palm Beach County. The SWA owns and operates a fiscally and environmentally responsible integrated solid waste management system to serve the residents, businesses and visitors of the county. Through this system, the SWA has: Achieved the highest recycling rate in the state for the past four years (2025, 2024, 2023, 2022) Operated two waste-to-energy facilities that consistently operate well below EPA standards for the past 36 years Recovered 1.3  million tons of metals that would otherwise be mined from virgin ores Eliminated the need for a new landfill until 2071 Learn more at swa.org.
