Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Dallas: Prepare for High Winds & Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Dallas, specifically Selma, with hazardous winds, moderate flooding potential, and a few tornadoes expected from Friday evening through early Saturday morning. Residents should prepare for potential damage and disruptions, secure property, and be ready to seek shelter.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Dallas, effective October 8 at 12:59 PM CDT. Residents in Selma should prepare for hazardous wind, potential flooding, and a few tornadoes as a tropical storm approaches. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the alert.
Tropical storm force winds of 35-45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected from Friday evening until early Saturday morning. Secure loose outdoor objects now. Plan for limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and sheds. Be prepared for broken tree limbs and some downed trees, which may cause scattered power and communications outages. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also somewhat favorable for tornadoes. Residents should include the potential for a few tornadoes in their emergency plans. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly.
