Residents in Selma must move to safe shelter immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the area by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL, effective October 8 at 4:07 PM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.

Peak winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are forecast from Friday evening until Saturday afternoon. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Large trees may be snapped, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages. All efforts to protect life and property should be completed as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Selma, with 2-4 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts. Moderate rainfall flooding is possible, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings.

While the tornado threat has decreased, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecast updates. For more information and hurricane preparedness tips, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
