Thornhurst Township Reflects on Productive 2025, Welcomes New Officials

Thornhurst Township experienced a busy and productive 2025, marked by several completed projects and the initiation of long-term community improvements in the heart of Lackawanna County. The Township Board of Supervisors highlighted these achievements in their recent community update.

Last year saw the complete repavement and tree trimming of Pine Grove Road, enhancing local infrastructure. The Township Building also received significant upgrades, including the sealing of its parking lot and the installation of a new furnace and fuel tanks. Looking ahead, two major long-term projects, the restoration of the Church building and the groundbreaking of the Riverfront Township Park project, are both slated for completion in 2026.

The Township also announced changes in key administrative and enforcement roles. Kim Grab, who served as Township Secretary and Treasurer for 35 years, has retired. The Board of Supervisors extended their gratitude for her remarkable service. Will Evans, the Sewage Enforcement Officer, and Tami Berry, the Tax Collector, were also thanked for their years of service.

Jennifer Mateyka has been elected as the new Real Estate Tax Collector and will also assume the roles of Secretary to the Board of Supervisors and Township Treasurer. David Lamereaux will serve as the new Sewage Enforcement Officer. Residents can find updated contact information for these officials in the community newsletter and on the Township website.

For contractors interested in working with the Township, it is required to be licensed and insured and to have these credentials on record for future project bidding. All bids will undergo review and approval by the Township Board of Supervisors.

Community members are reminded that the Planning Commission meets at 7:00 PM on the first Tuesday of March, May, September, and November, with additional meetings scheduled as needed. The Board of Supervisors holds their meetings at 7:30 PM on the second Thursday of each month. Both meetings take place at the Township Building on Old River Road. Public notices and any changes to meeting schedules are published in the Scranton Times, the longstanding voice of the Electric City, and information on local events and township news is posted on the bulletin board outside the Township Building.
