SCHLEY COUNTY, GA – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Schley County, including Ellaville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective immediately until 8:45 AM EDT today, October 9.
Residents should act now to complete preparations for hazardous wind, potential moderate flooding, and several tornadoes. Winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are forecast, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor structures and tree limbs is possible, alongside scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding, potentially requiring evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and low-lying areas could experience rapid inundation. Driving conditions will become hazardous.
A tornado threat is also present, with the situation favorable for several tornadoes. Emergency plans should include preparation for tornadoes, some potentially intense.
