URGENT: Storm Surge Warning for Mobile Central – Evacuate if Ordered

A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Mobile Central, including Mobile, Prichard, and Theodore, effective immediately until 6:15 PM CDT today, October 8, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, warns of life-threatening storm surge and potential hurricane-force winds.

Residents in surge-prone areas should complete evacuations now. Potential storm surge inundation of 4-7 feet above ground is forecast, with a threat of over 6 feet. Extensive structural damage and impassable roads are expected from Friday morning through Saturday morning. Wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected, but there is a potential for 74-110 mph winds. Prepare for considerable wind damage; move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Tornadoes are possible.
