Dangerous Rip Currents Expected Along Gulf Coast Through Saturday Night
Dangerous rip currents are expected along the coasts of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties through late Saturday night, posing a risk to swimmers.
Coastal residents and visitors in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties are advised that dangerous rip currents are expected through late Saturday night, October 11. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL issued a Rip Current Statement effective immediately until 6:00 AM CDT on October 11.
Rip currents can pose a significant danger, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The NWS urges beachgoers to exercise extreme caution.
If you plan to enter the water, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises to relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
