Keith Haring Exhibition Coming to Ringling College in 2027

Ringling College of Art and Design will host a major exhibition exploring the work and legacy of artist Keith Haring, starting Jan. 11, 2027. Titled "Keith Haring: Lines in Motion," the exhibition will feature over 100 works from a private collection. It offers a comprehensive look at Haring's impact on art, design, and activism.

Students in the Business of Art and Design program's Exhibition Design and Management course curated the entire exhibition. The show will be on view through April 2027 in the Lois and David Stulberg Gallery and the Selby Foundations Gallery on the Ringling College campus. PAN Art Connections provided the collection as a Single Source Traveling Exhibition.

The student curators gained hands-on experience in all facets of exhibition development, from research and conceptualization to curatorial decisions, interpretation, design, and public programming. This immersive experience allowed them to understand the practical considerations of presenting a major exhibition while studying an artist known for his interdisciplinary approach.

Keith Haring, celebrated for his bold drawings and recognizable symbols, challenged traditional art boundaries by making his work accessible to a wide audience. His subway drawings, paintings, murals, and Pop Shop creations brought art into public spaces and popular culture. Haring was also a vocal activist, using his art to address social issues such as AIDS awareness, racism, LGBTQ+ rights, and nuclear disarmament.

"Keith Haring understood that art could communicate with virtually anyone. He refused to accept the traditional boundaries between art and everyday life," said Tim Jaeger, Director and Chief Curator at Ringling College, who taught the course. "Having our students take on the responsibility of researching, interpreting, and presenting his work allows them to experience firsthand what it means to transform scholarship and creative ideas into an exhibition for a public audience."

Throughout the exhibition's run, Ringling College will host public programs including Artwalks, gallery talks, lectures, and educational events. These programs will explore Haring's artistic practice, design influence, activism, and his connection to contemporary artists and designers. Additional programming details will be announced later.
