Sarasota Child Safety Case Reviews: Critical Junctures
Sarasota child welfare supervisors and case managers must conduct formal reassessments whenever a family's circumstances change in ways that could affect a child's safety. The Florida Department of Children and Families calls these moments "Critical Junctures."
Supervisors typically review cases every 90 days through a Progress Update filed in the FSFN system. But Critical Junctures demand faster action. They include removing a child from home, the birth or death of a sibling, adding a household member, and changes to visitation rules. Reunification decisions and case closures also trigger reassessment.
Supervisors must also consult on cases after a court order directs changes, when children and caregivers show little progress toward case goals, during emergency placement changes, or after a new domestic violence report surfaces in the home.
These consultations determine whether a Progress Update should occur before the standard 90-day mark.
