Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties
A Rip Current Statement has been issued for coastal Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties until Monday evening, October 5, 2026, due to dangerous rip currents; swim near a lifeguard and know how to escape a rip current.
A Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, urging swimmers to exercise extreme caution in coastal waters. The statement is effective immediately, October 2, 2026, at 11:27 AM CDT, and remains in effect until Monday evening, October 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM CDT.
Dangerous rip currents are expected along the coasts of Baldwin County in Alabama, and Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties in Florida. These rip currents can quickly pull even experienced swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
The NWS advises individuals to swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, the primary instruction is to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for assistance. This advisory was issued by NWS Mobile AL.
