Santa Rosa County Library System Invites Community to Celebrate 20th Anniversary
"The Santa Rosa County Library System is celebrating 20 years of stories, learning and community, and everyone is invited to be part of the celebration.
The 20th Anniversary Celebration: A Story of Community will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Santa Rosa County libraries. Community members are invited to drop in throughout the day and enjoy special anniversary activities for all ages.
Since officially becoming the Santa Rosa County Library System in 2006, the libraries have been part of countless stories throughout Santa Rosa County — from first library cards and storytimes to research projects, community programs, new discoveries and lifelong learning.
For the past 20 years, patrons and families have helped shape the story of the library system. The anniversary celebration is an opportunity to recognize that shared history and thank the community for its continued support of Santa Rosa County libraries.

Please note: The Milton Library is temporarily closed and will not be open for the Oct. 3 celebrations. Milton patrons are encouraged to join the festivities at another Santa Rosa County library location.

SRC to host ribbon cutting for first public park in the Allentown community on Sept. 23
"Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners will hold a ribbon-cutting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, to celebrate the opening of the Allentown community's first public park. The park is located next to the Allentown Volunteer Fire Department, 9482 Highway 89 in Jay.
The new park provides opportunities for residents of all ages to stay active and enjoy the outdoors, featuring basketball courts, pickleball courts, and a Fitness Court®. This new recreational space represents an important addition to the Allentown community, with plans for additional improvements expected in the future.
"I’m excited to see this project fully developed in Allentown. This is such a close community, and I think this park is a great representation of that," said District 3 Commissioner Rhett Rowell. "Thank you to our county employees for the hard work they put in to see this to completion. This park will serve our residents for many years, and I’m proud to call it part of my home."
Funding for this park included a $30,000 National Fitness Campaign grant for the fitness court, along with just under $240,000 in sales tax and general fund revenues to build the basketball courts, pickleball courts, and parking areas. The overall project was originally estimated to cost more than $500,000. By choosing to utilize in‑house construction crews rather than contracting the work out, the County was able to complete the project for over $200,000 less than projected—delivering significant savings while maximizing the value of local tax dollars.
The Fitness Court® is a featured part of the initiative launched by the National Fitness Campaign (NFC), which works with municipalities, schools, and sponsors across America to plan, design, fund, and activate healthy communities and schools of the future. By 2030, the Campaign’s goal is to fund 5,000 free outdoor Fitness Courts® within a 10-minute bike ride of every American.
The new Fitness Court® at Allentown Park is the world’s best outdoor gym and allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven stations. Created with people aged 14 and over and with all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users may also download the free Fitness Court App, which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience. "
45th Annual Homemakers Holiday Fair
"The 45th Annual Homemakers Holiday Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 3 at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium, 4530 Spikes Way in Milton. During the past 45 years, the Homemakers Holiday Fair has gained a reputation as a place to find a variety of handmade gifts and decorations from local and regional crafters. A special highlight of the event is the baked goods made by talented members of the Association for Home and Community Educators (HCE) who sponsor this holiday fair.
Admission is free. Door prizes will be given away throughout the event, and tickets will be available for purchase to win a gift basket.
