Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Santa Rosa Coastal: Act Now
An Extreme Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Santa Rosa Coastal, including Bagdad, Gulf Breeze, and Navarre, with life-threatening surge, hurricane-force winds, major flooding, and tornadoes expected immediately.
SANTA ROSA COASTAL, FL – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL has issued an Extreme Storm Surge Warning, effective immediately, for Santa Rosa Coastal areas, including Bagdad, Gulf Breeze, and Navarre. This warning is in effect until 3:30 PM UTC today.
Residents in these areas face life-threatening conditions. Peak storm surge inundation of 6-9 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Those unable to evacuate must remain sheltered in a safe location and move to upper floors if water rises.
Hurricane-force winds, with peak gusts up to 130 mph, are expected from early this afternoon until early Saturday morning. Now is the time to shelter from these life-threatening winds. Last-minute efforts should focus solely on protecting life, as considerable wind damage is anticipated.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Furthermore, the situation is favorable for several tornadoes, which could hinder emergency response. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter.
