Residents across the San Francisco Bay Area and Monterey Bay region are advised to prepare for hot conditions as a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA, effective immediately until 10 PM PDT on Wednesday, October 7th.

The NWS reports maximum temperatures in the mid-90s to low-100s, with mild minimum temperatures offering limited overnight relief. This level of heat can impact individuals without effective cooling or adequate hydration, potentially affecting health systems and certain industries.

Affected areas include the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains and Valleys, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys and Hills, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley (including San Jose and Eastern Santa Clara Hills), Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County (including Pinnacles National Park).

Actionable information:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Consider offering water to vulnerable individuals.
  • If outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
  • Limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours.
  • Be aware of symptoms of heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke and take immediate action if experienced.
  • Never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly.
