Heat Advisory Issued for Bay Area: Extreme Temperatures Expected
A Heat Advisory has been issued for a wide area of the Bay Area, with temperatures in the mid-90s to low-100s expected from October 3rd until October 7th; residents should prioritize hydration and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains and Valleys, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys and Hills, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley (including San Jose), Eastern Santa Clara Hills, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County (including Pinnacles National Park).
The National Weather Service San Francisco CA issued the advisory at 7:48 PM PDT on October 3, 2026, effective until 10:00 PM PDT on October 7, 2026.
Hot conditions are expected, with maximum temperatures in the mid-90s to low-100s. Mild overnight temperatures and weak onshore flow will limit relief during nighttime hours. This level of heat can impact individuals without effective cooling or adequate hydration, potentially affecting health systems, heat-sensitive industries, and infrastructure.
Residents are advised to take precautions. Hydration is critical; drink plenty of water and consider providing water to vulnerable individuals. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Be aware of symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and take immediate action if experienced.
Crucially, do not leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes. For more information, visit the National Weather Service website.
