Santa Rosa County Deepwater Horizon Restoration Projects

Staff Writer
June 3, 2026
Santa Rosa County Can Submit Deepwater Horizon Restoration Projects

Santa Rosa County residents can propose restoration projects funded by the Deepwater Horizon settlement, the largest environmental damage settlement in U.S. history.

BP is paying $8.8 billion to federal and state trustees to restore habitats and public access damaged by the 2010 oil spill across Gulf states. A Trustee Council—including the departments of Interior and Agriculture, NOAA, EPA, and representatives from Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas—oversees the funds.

The Florida Trustee Implementation Group will evaluate Santa Rosa County project proposals for inclusion in the restoration plan. For details, contact the Santa Rosa County Administrator's office at 850-983-1877 or 6495 Caroline Street, Milton, FL 32570. Information is also available on NOAA's Gulf Spill Restoration Trustees website.
