Sanibel Causeway Closed Due to Serious Crash

The Sanibel Causeway is currently closed in both directions following a serious crash. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has shut down all traffic on the bridge as of Monday, May 25, 2026, to facilitate investigation and cleanup efforts.

Authorities expect the closure to remain in place for several hours. Residents and visitors planning to travel to or from Sanibel should avoid the area, use alternate routes, and allow for significant extra travel time.
