Families can explore vehicles that serve Sanibel and Lee County at the second annual Touch-A-Truck event. The Sanibel Recreation Center hosts the free community event on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The event offers children and families a hands-on experience, allowing them to climb aboard select vehicles and interact with the professionals who operate them. This year features over 20 vehicles from local agencies, organizations and businesses. Attendees can see representatives and equipment from the Sanibel Fire Rescue District, Sanibel Police Department, Lee County EMS, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, LCEC, Lee County Mosquito Control District, City of Sanibel Public Works and the Lee County Library System’s Mobile Library Bus.

A Sensory-Friendly Hour runs from 10 to 11 a.m. for individuals who prefer a less crowded and stimulating environment. The event opens to the general public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The festivities offer residents an opportunity to learn about the essential services these vehicles and their operators provide.

The LeeFlight helicopter will be on-site from 10 to 11 a.m. Its participation depends on emergency response needs, and the helicopter may depart if called to an active emergency. Families are encouraged to bring cameras to capture the experience.

For more information, contact the Sanibel Recreation Center at 239-472-0345.
