Lee County Ends EMS Franchise Talks with MedEx, Eyes New Provider

Lee County ended negotiations with MedEx on April 17 over the county's emergency medical services franchise agreement, county officials announced.

The two sides could not agree on contract terms despite extended talks. County representatives pushed for provisions they deemed essential for service quality and legal compliance, but MedEx declined to accept them.

"At that point, it became apparent that we were not going to find common ground on these outstanding issues, and negotiations could not proceed further," the county said in a statement.

County staff are now seeking a new EMS provider and developing a timeline for the selection process. Officials said they will announce more details about the process soon.

The franchise agreement determines which company provides emergency medical transport services in Lee County. The county said it remains committed to maintaining uninterrupted emergency services during the transition.
