Sandusky Resurfacing 39 Streets Starting April 15
Gerken Paving will mill and pave 39 street segments totaling 3.6 miles across Sandusky starting April 15 under a $1.11 million contract approved by the City Commission on March 23.
Crews will begin milling McDonough, Market, Washington Row, Franklin, and West Jefferson streets on April 15 and 16. Paving on those five streets will occur April 21 and 22, with work on remaining segments continuing through July 1.
The city selected streets based on pavement conditions, age, traffic volume, neighborhood improvements, and resident and staff feedback. The city will post no parking signs 48 hours before work begins on each street. Roadway sections will close temporarily during milling and paving.
The Capital Projects Fund, which includes Issue 8 funds, covers the cost. The Ohio Department of Transportation will reimburse up to $100,000 through its Jobs and Commerce Economic Development program, connected to LEWCO, Inc.'s planned facility expansion at 706 Lane Street. The Greater Sandusky Partnership secured the state grant.
Josh Snyder, interim director of Public Works, said the resurfacing continues recent street improvement efforts. Other 2026 projects include West Monroe Street reconstruction, paving on Camp Street between Monroe Street and Frantz Road, and the CDBG Street Resurfacing Project.
