Rip Current Risk: Stay Out of Lake Erie Through Wednesday Evening

Residents and visitors in Lucas, Ottawa, Erie, Lorain, and Cuyahoga Counties are advised to remain out of Lake Erie waters due to a high risk of rip currents. A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland OH, effective from 9:15 PM EDT on September 22 until 10:00 PM EDT on September 23 (Wednesday evening).

The NWS warns that wind and wave action will create strong currents along the lakeshore. These currents can pull swimmers away from the shore, through sandbars, and along structures extending into the lake.

To ensure personal safety, the NWS explicitly states: Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
