Huron Appoints Chief McGraw as New Fire Chief
The City of Huron appointed Chief McGraw as fire chief, ending a 22-year career that began when he joined the department part-time after graduating from Huron High School in 2003.
McGraw spent 17 years with the Sandusky Fire Department before moving to Norwalk, where he served as lieutenant and assistant fire chief. He holds certifications in fire suppression, emergency management, EMS, fire inspections, water rescues and HAZMAT.
"I am honored to serve the city I was born and raised in," McGraw said. He lives in Huron with his wife, Alicia, and two sons.
McGraw plans to strengthen training and equipment for department staff and increase community engagement through public programs. His immediate priorities include learning city operations and evaluating department procedures.
"We have great people who are educated and highly skilled," McGraw said. "We will make sure they remain well trained and equipped to continue that level of service."
Mayor Monty Tapp called McGraw's appointment a strong choice. "Chief McGraw brings a solid background in fire service leadership and a clear commitment to public safety," Tapp said.
