Sandusky Locks in 9.99¢ Electric Rate Through 2027
The City of Sandusky will extend its electric aggregation contract with Dynegy Energy Services East through December 2027 at a fixed rate of 9.99 cents per kilowatt-hour, the City Commission approved Monday.
The new term begins with the June 2026 billing cycle. The rate increases from the current 8.25 cents per kilowatt-hour but remains below Ohio Edison's projected standard supply rate of 10.6 cents per kilowatt-hour starting in June.
"The City works with Buckeye Energy Brokers to run a competitive bidding process and find the best rate available," City Manager John Orzech said.
The aggregation program pools residents and small businesses to negotiate lower electricity rates. Ohio Edison continues to deliver power and bill customers; only the generation supplier changes. Participation is voluntary.
Eligible customers not currently under contract with another supplier will be automatically enrolled. Opt-out notices will arrive in mid-April 2026. Customers can call Dynegy at 1-888-682-2170 or return the included form to decline enrollment. There are no penalties or fees for opting out.
