Sandpoint bids farewell to Clyde Thomas Schilling, who passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, at the age of 74. A lifelong resident with deep roots in the community, Schilling was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family.

Born on August 25, 1951, in Sandpoint to Clyde and Clara Schilling, Clyde spent his early childhood in Thermopolis, Wyoming, before his family returned to Sandpoint. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1971. In June 1971, he married Vicky Schilling, and they shared more than 55 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, hard work, and laughter.

Schilling's career reflected his commitment to hard work within the Sandpoint area. He began working for Les Rogers at Rogers M&J in the 1970s. He later contributed to the construction of the Bonner Mall while employed by Citadel Construction before rejoining Les at Rogers Excel. His career also included serving as night manager at Safeway, working as a truck driver for Bill Jones Distributor, and concluding his professional life making deliveries for Sandpoint Building Supply, where he maintained a reputation as a dependable employee.

Even in retirement, Schilling remained active. He established his own woodworking business, Swings and Things, crafting picnic tables and porch swings that are now part of homes throughout the community. He completed his final picnic table just this past spring.

Beyond his work, Schilling found joy in perch fishing, often spending time on the water with a fishing pole. He also enjoyed classic Westerns and possessed a wonderful sense of humor, often sharing his thoughts directly, which created many cherished family stories. He was affectionately known as "Bumpa" or "Bump" by his loved ones.

Clyde Schilling was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Clyde F. Schilling. He is survived by his wife, Vicky Schilling; his children, Jerry (Becky Oxford) Schilling, Christopher (Sherene) Schilling, and Bridget (Clint) Brintle; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his siblings, Marcella Ireland, Marlene Martino, Twila Adams, Chester Schilling, and Lorraine Chapman.
