Beach Hazards Alert: Dangerous Rip Currents, Sneaker Waves Expected
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for coastal North Bay and San Francisco Peninsula from Saturday morning to Monday afternoon, warning of dangerous rip currents, sneaker waves, and breaking waves up to 16 feet.
Coastal residents and visitors are advised to avoid beaches and waterside structures from Saturday morning, October 9, through Monday afternoon, October 12, due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service San Francisco. This alert specifically impacts the Coastal North Bay, including Point Reyes National Seashore, and the San Francisco Peninsula Coast counties.
The National Weather Service warns of an increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves, with breaking waves expected to reach up to 16 feet. These conditions create dangerous hazards along the shoreline, including strong rip currents and large breaking waves.
To ensure safety, the public is instructed to stay off of jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. It is critical to remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf. Residents and visitors are reminded to NEVER turn their back on the ocean. For ongoing updates on local weather, surf, and tide forecasts, please visit www.weather.gov/mtr.
