Beach Hazards Alert: Dangerous Sneaker Waves and Rip Currents Expected
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for coastal North Bay and San Francisco Peninsula from Saturday morning to Monday evening, warning of dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves up to 16 feet.
Coastal residents and visitors are advised to avoid beaches and waterside infrastructure from Saturday morning, October 10, through Monday evening, October 12, due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA. This alert affects the Coastal North Bay, including Point Reyes National Seashore, and the San Francisco Peninsula Coast.
Dangerous conditions are expected, including an increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves. Breaking waves up to 16 feet are forecast. The NWS warns of strong rip currents and large breaking waves, posing a significant hazard along the shoreline.
To ensure safety, the public must stay off jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf and NEVER turn your back on the ocean. For the latest weather, surf, and tide forecasts, visit www.weather.gov/mtr.
