Wind Advisory and Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Santa Ana Mountains
A Wind Advisory and Extreme Heat Warning have been issued for the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills, with dangerously hot conditions through Thursday and strong winds expected on Saturday.
Residents in the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills should prepare for a combination of strong winds and dangerously hot conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Wind Advisory and an Extreme Heat Warning for the area.
The Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 8 PM PDT Thursday, with temperatures expected to reach up to 100 degrees. The Wind Advisory is active from 6 AM to 6 PM PDT Saturday, with east winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph anticipated.
These gusty winds may dislodge unsecured objects, break tree limbs, and potentially cause power outages. Extreme heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The NWS advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned environments, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors. Never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as interior temperatures can become lethal very quickly. Strong winds can make driving challenging, especially for high-profile vehicles, so exercise extra caution.
