San Diego County residents in coastal areas are urged to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA. This warning is effective immediately, October 5 at 8:55 PM PDT, and will remain in effect until Thursday, October 8 at 8:00 PM PDT.

Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with high temperatures ranging from the mid-80s to lower-90s at the beaches. Inland coastal areas, including mesas and higher terrain, can anticipate temperatures from the mid-90s to around 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Nighttime relief will be limited, with very warm lows in the upper 60s to mid-70s.

Heat-related illnesses are a significant concern during extreme heat events. Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and remain out of the sun. It is also crucial to check on relatives and neighbors.

The NWS also stresses a critical warning: never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly. This warning applies specifically to San Diego County Coastal Areas. Follow these instructions to ensure safety during this period of extreme heat.
