A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for San Diego County Coastal Areas and Orange County Coastal Areas due to dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued this alert, which is valid from this afternoon, October 6, 2026, through Friday evening, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT.

Readers should be aware of elevated surf, expected to reach 3-5 feet with sets up to 6 feet on south and southwest-facing beaches. This will lead to strong rip currents. For your safety, always swim near a lifeguard. Inexperienced swimmers are advised that waves will be high enough to cause danger. Rip currents can drag individuals away from shore and pose a drowning risk.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from 6 AM Wednesday to 11 AM PDT Friday, October 9, 2026. This advisory indicates that tides and elevated surf will combine to cause localized flooding in low-lying areas along the shore. Minor coastal erosion is also expected. While only isolated road closures are anticipated, flooding of lots, parks, and roads is possible. High tides are projected to peak between 6.5 and 7.0 feet during morning and evening hours.
