Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills from October 6 to October 8, with dangerous temperatures in the 90s expected, urging residents to stay hydrated, seek air conditioning, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
Residents in the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA. The warning is effective from 2:20 AM PDT on October 6 until 8:00 PM PDT on October 8.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with high temperatures in the 90s. Nights will offer little relief, with low temperatures remaining very warm, ranging from the upper 60s to mid-70s. The NWS emphasizes that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events.
To protect against the severe heat, residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and remain out of the sun. It is also crucial to check on relatives and neighbors, especially those who may be vulnerable. A critical instruction from the NWS is: Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
