Pacific Palisades Fourth Graders Explore Marine Life at Catalina Island
Staff Writer
May 16, 2026
Fourth-grade students from Pacific Palisades spent an overnight trip at Toyon Bay on Catalina Island, snorkeling in kelp forests and conducting hands-on marine science labs.
Students encountered garibaldi, stingrays, and kelp bass while snorkeling. They also examined specimens in touch tanks, walked the beach collecting sea glass, and hiked at night to identify constellations and watch a SpaceX launch.
The trip required students to test themselves on rock walls and venture further into the ocean during snorkeling sessions. Campfire gatherings and shared meals built community among classmates.
