USF Ocean Mapping Gets $8.5M NOAA Funding

The University of South Florida's Center for Ocean Mapping and Innovative Technologies has received an $8.5 million award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to support its seafloor mapping efforts.

Established in 2020, the center previously received $9 million from NOAA for its launch. This ongoing funding reinforces USF's role in national and international ocean science.

The center's work is crucial for understanding marine environments, ensuring navigation safety and informing coastal management strategies along the Gulf Coast.

The award will enhance the center's technological infrastructure, expand research expeditions and support personnel for mapping projects, aiming to improve understanding of the ocean depths.
